Chanting 101 09/19/2010
I'll be teaching Chanting 101 in October at Yoga Among Friends in Downers Grove, Illinois. ![]() Join me there and learn how to chant in a safe, fun environment! We will use the traditional method of listen and repeat to study some beautiful Sanskrit chants. Step-by-step instructions will provide skills in basic chanting techniques, Sanskrit pronunciation, and the use of sound in a yoga practice. No previous experience needed! (And those of you who have stayed away from chanting because you think that you can't carry a tune? Well, chanting is even more for you. Three notes, and you set your own pitch. If you can exhale, you can chant.) And chanting has many benefits. Among them, lengthening your breath, hearing your own voice (it's great for working on confidence and communication), practicing mental focus, improving your speaking voice. And did I mention that it's a lot of fun? When I teach chant, we laugh as well as learn. The first series will run on Sunday, Oct. 3, 10 and 17 at Yoga Among Friends, 3rd floor. The second series will run on oct. 31, Nov. 7, and Nov. 14. (The cost is $40 for the 3-class series - and I encourage you to sign up for the whole thing, as skills will build from week to week. But you can take classes individually, and then the cost is $15 per class. The studio accepts cash or check.) Hope that you'll join me.
